Getting your stairs back

A stairlift is about the whole house, not the stairs

People rarely ring us about a staircase. They ring because a bedroom has moved downstairs, because the only bath is on the first floor, or because someone has stopped going up altogether.

Your own bed again

The most common reason a stairlift goes in is to stop a living room becoming a bedroom. Getting the first floor back usually means getting the whole house back.

The stairs stop being the risk

Stairs are where falls happen. A lift removes the climb entirely rather than making it slightly safer, which is a different and much better outcome.

Staying put

For a lot of people the real choice is not which stairlift, it is whether to move house at all. A lift is a fraction of the cost of moving and you keep your neighbours.

A free quote, honestly given

Every quote on every stairlift is free and carries no obligation. We are independent, so if the answer is that you do not need one, that is what we will tell you.

The four types

Which mobility stairlift suits your staircase

Your staircase decides most of this before anything else does. These are the four we supply across London, and what each one is actually for.

  • Straight — one unbroken flight with no turn. The rail is cut to length, so these are the quickest and least expensive to fit.
  • Curved — any bend, turn or half-landing. The rail is manufactured to match your exact staircase, so it follows the turn in one continuous run.
  • Reconditioned — a fully refurbished lift at a lower price. Worth asking about if the stairs are straight and the budget matters.
  • Outdoor — weatherproofed for steps up to a front or back door, side returns and garden steps.

Questions

Mobility stairlifts: your questions answered

Which stairlift is right for me?
It is decided by your staircase before it is decided by anything else. A staircase that runs in one unbroken flight takes a straight stairlift. Anything with a bend, a turn or a half-landing needs a curved rail built to match. After that it comes down to weight capacity, how much room there is at the top and bottom, and whether the lift is going indoors or outside.
What weight can a stairlift take?
The Acorn 130 straight stairlift takes up to 127kg, and there is a heavy-duty version rated to 159kg. The Acorn 180 curved stairlift takes up to 120kg. Those are the figures for the two models we fit most; other makes vary, so tell us the weight the lift needs to carry and we will tell you honestly what suits.
Can a stairlift be fitted to narrow or steep stairs?
Usually, yes. Stairlifts can be fitted to narrow, steep, straight or curved staircases. The measurement that matters is the width at the tightest point, not the widest, and it is the first thing we check on the survey. If a lift genuinely will not fit we will say so rather than sell you one.
Do stairlifts keep working in a power cut?
Yes. Stairlifts are powered by electricity and include a rechargeable battery system, so the lift keeps running if the power goes off. The batteries charge whenever the lift is parked at either end of the rail, which is why we ask you to leave it parked rather than stopped halfway.
Do you cover my part of London?
We cover all throughout London, and we are based at 4 Hoodcote Gardens in Winchmore Hill, N21. That puts Enfield, Barnet and Haringey on the doorstep, but we travel right across the capital. Ring 0800 4647401 and tell us the postcode.
What does a quote cost?
Nothing. Every quote on every stairlift is free and comes with no obligation. We are an independent family firm rather than a manufacturer, so there is no target to hit and no hard sell at the end of it.
